PUNK ROCK SELF-HELP

La Cucaracha & Squash that little FEAR!!!

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

When you are sitting quietly in your house reading your favorite book & you see a crawling tiny little critter, What do you do? You get up & squash it! Right?! Or maybe you do what I do & get my bug glass & a piece of paper, catch it & throw the bug out the window & pray that it finds its way out into the world AWAY from me!!!

So there you are sitting quietly reading your favorite book when a fear thought crawls in. It's a little critter isn't it! We see it! We stop reading our book & we focus on it! Next thing we know this little fear thought MAGNIFIES. This is a BIG fear now! We didn't squash it! We didn't acknowledge its existence & let it free into the world! Nope, we stopped everything we were doing & let it creep into our happy place & take over!

Why are we more protective of our physical space than our mental space?

I would squash an intruder in a second! But a mental intruder I let linger. I let it fester. I give into it. I feed it with my self doubt.

Just like some bugs aren’t all bad, (spiders eat other bugs ;) Fear isn't ALL bad! Fear is a mechanism to remind you to work harder or to be careful. Fear is a signal that action needs to take place. Don't ignore it! Acknowledge it. Listen to its message. Ask yourself if it is true? Is this a constructive fear message? If yes, then listen to it & take action. If this is a destructive fear message designed to add self doubt then acknowledge it, and speak to that fear by writing down a list of actions you are going to take so there is no reason to fear & then let it go! Then sometimes we just cannot let the fear go!!! That’s when you listen to your fear & throw a harness on it & RIDE THE FEAR OUT! Yeeha!

Imagine you have a bug zapper. You know the ones in suburban back yards that are lit up. & imagine every time you have a fear thought, that it goes into the bug zapper & gets ZAPPED! How many times today did you ZAP a little fear critter? Pay attention! & if it's more then you expected install a fear zapper in your mental back yard!
