Lots of revelations happened days after the nightmarish storm Sandy. Like maybe a back up generator isn't a bad idea! Like my Dad's Y2K kits for Christmas years back actually came in handy. Or like, we might have a govt. that keeps information from it's constituents.

Barb, my mom, is a lover of all things American. She believes in this country. She believes in working hard. Paying taxes and contributing to the greater good of a Democratic Republic.

Which was why I am still shocked by the aftermath that no one has the Courage to speak of.

My mom, does not trust her Government.

Which is perplexing bc she has NEVER EVER said this before.

My mom is a second generation American. My Pop-up was born in Brooklyn but his parents were born in Ischia, Italy. My nanny, abuelita, was born in Puerto Rico but her parents were born in Castile, Spain. Neither native tongue was spoken in her house growing up bc they wanted to leave their heritage behind to BE Americans. They raised my mother to know how lucky she was to be born in America. "The land of the free. The land of the brave. The land of the people, by the people, for the people."

Days after Sandy...

I found my mom in a DAZE after Sandy.

Barb's disenchantment was a direct result of the withholding of information on the News.

No one Knew how bad Staten Island was hit until Days later. And once reporters did show up it seemed the story being told wasn't telling the Full version. Luckily, being a native of the island my mom had an insider look of all that really happened.

There were MANY more deaths than what was being reported on the News.

STILL to this moment...

The public death toll being stated is 113 Total fatalities resulting from hurricane Sandy.

That is not correct!!!

There is absolutely NO way that this storm left only 113 fatalities.

Yet, the T.V. reporters continue on spewing fake numbers. While she knew the truth.

Are they withholding the true amount of deaths bc the govt. is afraid of a backlash?!?! Or riots? Or chaos?! Or panic?!?!

Bc now the resulting alternative is
Much worse...Disenchanted nationalists, Clinging to an idea of America they had just days ago.

I think what upsets her most is that homes can be fixed but lives can't be brought back!!! That is what is most frustrating to her is that these people died and aren't being acknowledged and represented with honor. Instead, it's become a sweeping under the rug or like Staten Island was an after thought. And now damage control has included lying to the masses about the accurate number of those who lost their lives.

"Why aren't they telling us?!"

It's debilitating to watch people you Love without homes. But watching someone you adore homeless and with a broken spirit.

That's heart breaking.

My mom will get her heat back. Power will be turned back on...eventually.
She'll be able to move back home.

But...

I'm not so sure about her faith in our government.

Today, do you have faith in your government? Do you believe that you are an active member & are being represented? Have you ever felt confused, perplexed, ashamed by your government's behavior? If so, what did you do to change it? If not, be grateful that your interests are aligned with your governing power!

Ps: Lets hope there isn't a conspiracy and the news isn't being censored and is in fact telling us the truth. If the conspiracy is correct well then...Truth is what we ask for. Honesty is what we expect. & Fight the Power! ;)
