PUNK ROCK SELF-HELP

The other, other C word: Chemotherapy

Friday, January 18, 2013

Yikes!

Harry has been confirmed with having cancer.

Ugh.

That C word is so ugly.

He had his first Chemotherapy treatment.

This C word is hopeful...

We are hopeful that the tumor in his bladder will shrink leaving his cancer in remission.

I had to fill out a permission form before he could get his first treatment. The intro line was: "I understand my pet has cancer..."

I thought...Harry can't have it! He's so healthy & happy. But...he does.

I guess they make everyone sign it bc it helps them come to terms to accept the illness.

On the permission slip was the Diagnosis to be checked. There were 7 categories:
"Unknown-Unable to give prognosis

Grave-Avg. survival *less than 3 months. Death may be imminent

Guarded-Avg. survival *3 to 6 months

Poor-Avg. survival *6 months

Fair: Avg. survival *6 to 9 months

Good: Avg. survival *9 to 12 months

Excellent: Avg. survival *greater than 12 months

(*Some patients have a longer life span, and others shorter, than the average survival time. This is true for all levels of prognosis given.)"

Harry was given Good-Avg. survival *9 to 12 months.

Today, imagine you knew your lifespan. You knew how many more months, days, minutes, seconds, breathes you had left to take. Regrets? Things needed to be done before your time is done?

Do Em!

Please, say a prayer for my baby Harry :)

Xoxo
