The Japanese art of decluttering and organizing.
Is all the rage right now.
Had to try it!
Funny how we...
Stuff places with stuff.
Storing things within things. Like we store negative energy in the empty parts of our bodies, with fat, aches, pains, stiffness, cramps, bad moods...We store negative energy in our homes.
I am a hoarder of clothes.
I grew up with a bedroom with clothes up to my knees. That's safety to me. Having clothes upon clothes. Piled up. Not wearing them all. Just having them. In case.
I can't do it anymore. It's Cluttering my throat.
(I meant to write thoughts...interesting ;)
It's Cluttering my throat.
My thoughts.
My creative energy.
I get zapped by all of the STUFF I have.
The time I spend sorting it.
Folding it.
Laundering it.
And all the while, I don't even LIKE it?
Why would I hold onto anything that doesn't bring me Joy?!?!
Hmm...
Turns out...
I never asked the question.
Today, KonMari!!! Pick one category in your house that you would like to organize.
Gather it all in one spot.
I had clothes in 3 different closets. And stuff in the laundry too. I dumped all of it on my bed.
And began by sub category. All pants in one spot. All long sleeved shirts. All tank tops.
...
I picked up every single item I owned and asked "Does this make me feel joy?"
The answer came fast.
Some was an overwhelming feeling of "Hell Yeah!"
Other times it was a feeling of utilitarian only. Where I felt this doesn't bring me Joy but, I need this. This was my response to my bras. Which I found very interesting.
I had a very strict 2 pile system of Joy & No Joy.
After, sorting through the category I would put the Joy clothes back into my empty closet.
And the No Joy clothes went into the hallway to be donated.
I went through every category.
Until at the end I had 14 bags of Donations.
First day, I donated 6 bags.
Next day, 4 more bags.
Now, I have 4 left that are the last to go through. These were the items that I had to question.
The final line of questions I had to ask for each item:
-Would I buy this if I saw this in a store now?
-If I was a zillionaire, and could buy this new again, would I donate this?
-Have I worn it in the last 3 months?
-What memory do I have with this item?
Try this with me!!!
