Partying Hippie JESUS?!?

Growing up in a Catholic Grammar school it became very clear that Jesus was my cool older brother & God was my 1950's dad of the belief that children should be seen and not heard.

The Old Testament was filled with daunting tales of God treating us, his children, that HE created, with WRATH! Juxtaposed with stories of Jesus turning the other cheek in the New Testament.

God was to be FEARED!

Jesus was someone I WANTED TO BE LIKE.

Jesus was COOL :)

Um...like really COOL!

He made being Kind and caring what I wanted to become. He hung out with the lepers, gamblers, thieves & prostitutes without judgement.

He was ROCK-N-ROLL!!!

As a kid I would think: "Wow, God is a jerk & Jesus is a Hippie."

Now, It could be bc he kinda looked like my hippie Dad with the long hair & all ;) But I distinctly remember thinking, my parents Totally would have hung out with JESUS!

God was a SQUARE!!!

He was boring, PREDICTABLE, stern & unforgiving.

Even though, they always called him a "Loving God" which I Never understood! 
I was told the reasoning for this was that We should be grateful that He gave Us anything at all! God giveth and then God taketh away. BUT he giveth...So YOU SHOULD BE GRATEFUL or he will quickly take it away and make an example of you! 

How is that "All Loving"??? 
Sounds conditional to me.

Especially, since there were NO conditions in Jesus' teachings. He loved us in Spite of our mistakes!

Jesus believed that he was the son of God and that we are ALL his children & that God loves us unconditionally.

God on the other hand turned us into a pillar of Salt if we disobeyed him.

Yikes!

These are two very different styles of "parenting". I had to choose which worked best for me. I identified with Jesus & his teachings so I chose Jesus to be my guide :)

Bc...

Jesus actually was ALL LOVING :))

And...

Jesus was a PARTY ANIMAL!!!

Say what?!? Don't talk like that 'Bout our Lord and Savior!

Oh yeah! You HEARD me!

What was Jesus' FIRST Miracle?!?!

Uh huh...

Jesus's First MIRACLE was turning water into WINE!!!!

He was at a wedding reception & they ran out of wine so he took water and he Turned it into wine!!! Jesus did this to keep the celebration Going all night long!!

Next time You ask yourself W.W.J.D.

Oh man...

Jesus would CELEBRATE LIFE!!! Bc that's ALL we are here for :)))

We were put on this Planet to: Spread LOVE & JOY!

Today, what teachings speak to you?'
When I was younger I chose Jesus as my Homeboy :) & God was my outdated uncool father who I love but can't relate to like I do Jesus. His teachings rang true to me! 
Think of what rings true in your soul?!?
Is there a particular saint or deity that speaks to you, that you can really relate to?!? That reminds you of your humanity & makes you Want to be great! 

Now bow your head and give them thanks for clarity & hope in this lifetime. Then say a gratitude prayer for their understanding and the kinship you feel :)

Finally, take what you like from religions & leave the rest! 
Tolerance is KEY :) 
Leave all the Dogma & Judging behind! 
Pick and choose what works for you, what moves you?
What rings true in your SOUL!?! 
Most importantly…
What makes you Want to Be kind & good to people?

Just like what Hippie Jesus would say...
