I have no clue how the date of Hanukkah is decided!?! & Why does the date seem to change each year?!?
Hanukkah begins on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev. Which is the ninth month of the Jewish year.
The Jewish calendar is based on both solar and lunar calendars. While, our "standard" calendar is just solar, so the dates on both calendars won't correspond directly.
Resulting in...
Jewish holidays moving around a lot and dates fluctuating with other "normal" calendars.
Sooo...
The first day of Hanukkah can fall anywhere between November 28th and December 26th. Some years it falls in December or as early as November! While some years it’s closer to Christmas.
But overall Hanukkah always falls on the same date on the Hebrew Calendar :) which is their "standard".
This year is Happy Thanksgivingkkuah!
Today, light a candle on a menorah and get ready to give thanks!
Xoxo
