OPPOSITE Day!

Trying somen new.

Damn, is it scary.

Usually, when I book a stand up show I spend the week before tormenting myself. I write an entirely new set to challenge myself. And suffer through the time leading up to the performance. This is sooooo not enjoyable @ ALL.

But...

This time is different.

Trying somen new!

Relaxing.
As an artist.

Not stressing the creation process.

Before, I would lose myself in the nerves of scrambling to write a whole new set.

Bc I wanted to earn each show and perform new stuff every time.

Um, yeah...
Torture myself.

Now, I plan to use the days leading up to my Thursday night show happily.

Absorbing all the ART around me :)

Reading inspiring articles.
Watching YouTube videos of performers I love or new ones I stumble upon.

At times...
I PANIC.

Think to myself, "WTF are you doing?!?! You are going to f*ck this all up!!! Stop being cavalier. Get to work!!! Being an artist is about suffering through the creative process. NOT enjoying yourself."

Hmm...

In NOT doing.
I am learning and growing more than I ever thought possible.

Today, Do the opposite of what you normally do!

It's that simple.

You see your roomate's wet towel hanging with globs of her hair hanging to dry on the doorknob rather than on the towel hook...
Leave it there!
Usually, you would move it back to where it belongs. Don't bother! Do the OPPOSITE of what you normally would do!!!

Supermarket checkout asks, "If you want paper or plastic?" Choose the opposite of what you normally would. Simple. But, it will be a new sensation for your walk home. How the material feels on your hands. How the stuff is balanced. Try it! OPPOSITE.

OPPOSITE Day reminds me of a joke my cuz played on me when I was little*...

He said, "Betsy, you are really pretty." I was shocked Bc he was always douchey. Then he said, "Psyche! It's OPPOSITE Day!"

Grrr...

This OPPOSITE Day is worth celebrating :)))
Challenge yourself.
Might just be surprised with what you learn ;)

So far I've learned...
enJOY'n the creative process is killn me! ;)

Xoxo
