PUNK ROCK SELF-HELP

Drinks like a Fish & then Thinks like a Fish

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

When I was little we used to play this game in our pool where me and my sister would count to three, then hold our breath & meet under water. We would have a Tea Party! We floated under water cross legged and would pour each other tea then ask if the other wanted sugar & cream? We did this ALL under water! When it was time to come up for air, we would swim up to the surface & I would ask, "Did you hear what I said"?!?! I asked if you wanted one lump or two lumps of sugar?" and she would say "I heard, you like pretty Cougars!"

We would laugh and then swim under for another tea party! We would do this for HOURS!! Have garbled under water conversations only to come up for air to tell the other what we were trying to say. What we thought we heard was always different from what the other had actually said! Garbled under water conversations...

This is what it is like to communicate with an alcoholic. They have chosen their vice, water...added to alcohol. They are floating in their drink. They can't really hear what anyone is saying bc they have built a water wall between them & the outside world. There is a water barrier that few thoughts can enter and escape.  Even to other "fish" they just float next to each other, both swimming in their own water.

Choose your vice wisely! Bc this will become your consciousness & ultimately your death.

Choosing to communicate with an alcoholic proves difficult bc every time we go under water to connect with them we are gasping for air. They have chosen to be fish, we have not. So the self induced gills of oblivion that they wear, we do not possess. Every time we attempt to connect with them we are cutting off our own circulation of air.

It is very confusing! & no way to live.

We think we can have a tea party and save them! But some Fish, like being Fish! We cannot choose the lives of others, it is Their choice the consciousness they choose to keep.

We were all once surrounded in water. It is a peaceful state. Drunk on the gargled sounds of our mother & not really able to hear or deal with the outside world. Maybe drinking is a state to get closer to the womb. Ever see someone really drunk they revert back to being a baby. Drooling, not being able to move, slurring their words.

The alcoholic will say it's to party or to have FUN! But if you can catch a fish long enough you know better, they are in tremendous pain. It's HEPLESS to watch. Bc ALL we want to do is help! HELP! Help them get help! HELP! Help IS available! HELP!!!!!!!!!

But it's not our choice...

They can't help it, they are drowning in their own choices.

So we can schedule tea parties. Go down to their consciousness to visit. But be sure to remind yourself to come up for air. Bc unfortunately you can't put the fish state on hold & have the Luxury of swimming up to the surface to have a conversation with them to decipher what the other was trying to say. The same way we don't speak fish is the same way we can't communicate clearly with an alcoholic.

Bc it's not about us, it's about them. They have chosen to live out their life in this state and all we can do is watch them in the fish bowl. Bc when we join them under water we have Two choices: 1.)become a fish & still be detached to them anyway just floating by their side or 2.)stay sober and try to live in their fishbowl only to drown ourselves.

Saddening...my heart breaks. But.. We can't save those that don't want to be saved. We have to stay healthy ourselves. Bc as they say in AA: But for the grace of God go I.

Send love to the alcoholics in your life. Don't try to change them. They don't Want to be changed, until They say they need it. Love them for who they are today, not who you Know they could be. Pray that the light & clarity will reach them in the waters of their consciousness. Finally, pray for peace & clarity for yourself.

God Bless. Xo
