Finished one of the million Crafts on the counter!!!

Oven Blake Clay Ring Dishes :)))

Items you'll need:
-1, 8oz. package of white Clay
-1, 2oz. gold package of Clay
-6, 2oz. colors that you think will go good together (I chose specific colors for the people I was making it for :)
-glass bottle
-Exacto knife
-Can of tomatoes
-Pyrex measuring cup
-Krylon gold leafing pen
-Sculpey glaze
-brush for glaze

This took me a full afternoon to do. It was a ton of FUN!!!

My 1st one was BLAHHHH & cracked.

Then the more I made the more I LOVED them.

The thinner I made them the better they looked too.

Also, I liked them matted.

But...
For the ugly ones adding glaze has helped coat over the imperfections ;)

Step By Step:
Go to Michaels and buy Oven Bake Clay!!!

My 2cents: Sculpey is the best brand. $2.79 each so it's the same price as Fimo and Premo. Craft smart is MUCH cheaper at $1.79. Don't do it!!!! It's harder to knead. Takes longer. Don't get me wrong if it's the only brand it's perfectly fine. Just don't buy it to cheap out Bc it's more work.

Pick your colors!
Always add a white row.
I like adding a gold row too.
6 is the most colors of Clay I used per dish.

Grab a piece of Clay. And roll it into the size of a String Bean.

Do this to the other colors chosen.

Line all of the Clay String Beans in a row.

Line the colors up: Darker, lighter, darker, lighter.

Twist the String Beans together.

Twist the string all in the same direction. Winding it up.

With your right hand twisting forward. Left hand twisting towards you. Twist.

Then cut the Twist in half. And then in half again. The goal is to get the colors in the middle out.

Find the colors you like!

Then Twist again.

Now, SMASH it into a ball.

Keeping the color scheme you like on top.

Roll it in the palm of your hand.
Place the ball on your cutting board. I used my granite counter.

And use a glass bottle to roll it.
Glass is great Bc you can see the pattern as it rolls.

Try to roll it into a circle-ish shape.

Flip the Clay over and roll the under side.

Pick which side you like better.

Grab a circle the size of the ring dish you want.

I used a can of tomatoes ;)
Put it on top as an outline to use the Exacto knife to cut the shape out.

Now, use your finger to sculpt the edges smooth.

Fix any bumps or dips. Take your time to smooth it out!

Then grab the disc by the bottom and place it gently in a Pyrex measuring cup.

(I tried other bowls and I broke them. Or they made the dish wobbly:/)

The benefit of using glass is you can see if the dish is level.

Use your finger to gently press on the middle to make a dip in the ring dish.

Bake your ring disk for the amount of time and degree that is listed on your Clay package.

Take it out of the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Then scoop the dish out.

If you snip the side and indent the side a little while taking it out of the Pyrex, quickly rub the side to smooth it out.

Once dried, use the Gold leafing pen to outline the edge.
Hold your left finger in the middle of the dish and draw the gold line on the edges with your right. Keep it still and as even as possible.

It's not going to be perfect, which is perfect :)

Just be sure to gold the edges.

This is a great opportunity to cover any imperfections on the edges too ;)

For the ring dishes that I didn't
Love the patterns and needed a little jouj, I glazed them.
like matted the best, but the glaze looks cool too. Makes it looks more finished.

Sculpey has a great glaze for $5.95. Use a craft brush and cover the dish. Let them dry.

Underneath you can write the date, your name and a sweet message.

If you wanted a more professional look you could stamp the ring dish with a message while the clay is still mushy.

I wanted this to look homemade and like a unique piece of art that was obvious I made.
It worked :)

Today, CLAY away!!!
It is so fun to play with Clay! And there is no wrong way to do this. You get to pick the patterns. And once I started realizing that and marbelizing the colors more and more with twists I had more FUN!!!

This is so ez! It does take some time and is soooo worth it :)))

Hope they like it!!!

Xoxo
